Fort Lauderdale's only dedicated ocean safety school. Our certified lifeguard instructors teach children how to navigate rip currents on Broward County's beaches, read the Atlantic surf, and survive the open ocean - with a strict 2:1 student-to-instructor ratio on every session.
Fort Lauderdale Beach, Pompano Beach, Deerfield Beach, and Hollywood Beach attract hundreds of thousands of swimmers each year. Broward County's Atlantic coastline is scenic, warm, and inviting - and it produces consistent rip current activity year-round that most swimmers are entirely unprepared for.
Rip currents form regularly between Fort Lauderdale Beach's offshore sandbars, at the Pompano Beach inlet area, and along the open stretches of Deerfield Beach. For families who spend weekends on Broward County's shores, ocean safety knowledge is not optional - it is essential. Yet there is no dedicated school teaching it. Until now.
The Shore Academy is the only dedicated private ocean safety school operating on Broward County's beaches. Fort Lauderdale has a robust public Junior Lifeguard Program run by the city's fire-rescue department, but it is not designed for the general public seeking personalized, small-group, year-round ocean safety education for their children.
Our certified ocean lifeguard instructors bring real open-water rescue experience to every Fort Lauderdale session. We teach the skills that Broward County lifeguards use every weekend: rip current identification and escape, wave reading, flag system knowledge, and how to call for help if needed.
We operate on Fort Lauderdale Beach, Pompano Beach, Deerfield Beach, and Hollywood Beach. Exact location confirmed during your pre-session call based on conditions and your Broward County location.
Rip currents cause the majority of ocean rescues on Fort Lauderdale Beach every season. Our instructors teach students to identify, avoid, and escape rip currents in real Atlantic surf conditions - not a pool.
Every instructor is a certified ocean lifeguard with CPR/AED certification and American Red Cross credentials. Our team has performed hundreds of real ocean rescues across Florida's Atlantic coastline.
Every Fort Lauderdale session is professionally photographed and filmed by a certified lifeguard media director. High-quality photos and video are yours to keep - free with every booking.
We cap every Fort Lauderdale session at 6 students and maintain a strict 2:1 student-to-instructor ratio. Your child gets hands-on, expert-level attention in the Atlantic Ocean.
Every session builds real ocean competency specific to Fort Lauderdale's Atlantic conditions. Students are coached by certified lifeguards in the water - not in a classroom or pool.

The heart of Broward County's coastline and one of Florida's most iconic beaches. Fort Lauderdale Beach offers dynamic Atlantic surf conditions ideal for every skill level, with active rip current zones between A1A and the offshore sandbar line that make this the perfect real-world training ground.
Pompano Beach offers clear Atlantic waters and consistent surf that is well-suited to intermediate ocean safety training. Lauderdale-by-the-Sea's reef provides a distinct ocean environment - students learn how reef-adjacent conditions change wave behavior, current patterns, and swimming strategy.
Deerfield Beach in northern Broward County and Hollywood Beach on the southern end offer two distinct Atlantic environments. Both produce strong rip currents and consistent surf. Serving families across all of Broward County, these beaches allow us to run sessions close to where you live.
The Shore Academy is an ocean navigation program, not a learn-to-swim school. Every student must meet these requirements before attending a Broward County session.

"We're at Fort Lauderdale Beach almost every Sunday. After a rip current scare last spring, we found The Shore Academy. The instructors are exactly what they claim to be - real certified lifeguards who know these waters. Our kids are now the safest kids on the beach."
"My daughter had been swimming at Pompano Beach her whole life but never understood what the flags meant or what a rip current looked like. Two sessions with The Shore Academy and she can now spot them from the shore. That knowledge is priceless."
"The 6-session mastery course at Deerfield Beach was exceptional. The professional videos they capture of every session are stunning - but honestly the skills my son learned are worth 100x the price. He is a completely different swimmer in the ocean now."
Every weekend, Broward County families swim in conditions they don't fully understand. Give your child the rip current training, wave reading, and real ocean confidence to stay safe on Fort Lauderdale's most beautiful and most demanding shores - for the rest of their life.
