Miami's only dedicated ocean safety school. Our certified lifeguard instructors teach children how to navigate rip currents at Miami Beach, read the surf, and survive the Atlantic Ocean - with a strict 2:1 student-to-instructor ratio on every session.
Miami-Dade County records some of the highest rip current incident rates in the state. The stretch from South Beach to Haulover Beach sees hundreds of water rescues each season - and the majority of victims are strong pool swimmers who had no ocean-specific training.
Pool skills do not transfer to the ocean. The Atlantic waters off Miami Beach move differently, behave differently, and demand a completely different skill set. Rip currents form daily at popular Miami beaches including South Beach, Mid-Beach, Surfside, and Crandon Park on Key Biscayne. Without knowing how to identify a rip current before you enter the water, your child is at risk every time they swim in Miami.
The Shore Academy is the only dedicated private ocean safety school operating on Miami's beaches. While Miami Beach's ocean rescue program serves the public and some city programs run junior lifeguard camps, there is no equivalent private school offering the personalized, small-group, certified-instructor-led ocean safety education we provide.
Our certified ocean lifeguard instructors - all with real rescue experience - teach your child the exact skills that Miami Beach Ocean Rescue uses every weekend: rip current identification and escape, wave reading, flag system knowledge, marine life awareness, and how to signal for help.
We operate on Miami Beach, South Beach, Crandon Park (Key Biscayne), and Haulover Beach. Exact location confirmed during your pre-session call based on conditions.
Rip currents cause 80%+ of all lifeguard rescues at Miami Beach. Every Shore Academy session includes real-world rip current identification and escape training in the Atlantic.
Every instructor is a certified ocean lifeguard with CPR/AED certification and American Red Cross credentials. Our team has hundreds of real ocean rescues across Florida and beyond.
Every Miami Beach session is professionally photographed and filmed. You'll receive high-quality media of your child's ocean safety experience - free with every booking.
We never exceed 6 students per session. The strict 2:1 student-to-instructor ratio means your child receives elite-level personal attention on every Miami beach session.
Every session builds real-world ocean competency specific to Miami's Atlantic conditions. These aren't classroom lessons - students are coached by certified ocean lifeguards in the water at Miami Beach.
Rip currents at Miami Beach are among the most active in Florida. Students learn to spot a rip current before entering the water, what to do when caught in one, and how to safely return to shore. The skill that saves lives.
Core SkillThe Atlantic surf at Miami Beach breaks differently from Gulf beaches. Students learn how to read incoming sets, time their entries and exits, body surf safely, and use wave energy rather than fight it.
Core SkillMiami Beach flies the Florida state beach flag system. Students learn what every flag color means, how to check conditions before entering the water, and when to stay out. A 5-minute lesson that prevents tragedies.
SafetyMiami's warm Atlantic waters are home to jellyfish, stingrays, sharks, and sea urchins. Students learn identification, avoidance, and what to do after an encounter. Calm, informed reactions keep situations from escalating.
SafetySwimming in the Atlantic Ocean at Miami Beach is nothing like a pool. Students learn proper open water stroke mechanics, how to sight landmarks, manage fatigue in moving water, and navigate lateral drift from currents.
TechniqueWhat to do when you or someone else is in trouble in the water off Miami Beach. Students learn universal distress signals, how to attract attention from Miami Beach Ocean Rescue, and basic rescue assistance techniques.
EmergencyThe Shore Academy operates on Miami-Dade County's most iconic Atlantic beaches. Sessions are assigned based on conditions, your location, and student readiness.
Miami Beach's 7-mile stretch is the crown jewel of South Florida ocean swimming. Sessions here give students experience in one of the most dynamic surf environments in Florida - including the active rip current zones between 1st and 23rd Street.
One of Miami-Dade's most beautiful beaches and a favorite for families. Crandon Park's protected bay sections offer calmer conditions for younger or less-experienced students, while the open ocean side provides full Atlantic conditions for advanced sessions.
Located between Bal Harbour and Aventura, Haulover Beach offers consistent Atlantic surf conditions ideal for ocean navigation training. The beach is uncrowded on weekend mornings - perfect for focused, distraction-free shore academy sessions.
The Shore Academy is an ocean navigation program, not a learn-to-swim school. Every student must meet these requirements before attending a Miami session.
Safety is our priority above everything else. If during our consultation or initial beach assessment we determine a student is not yet ready for Miami Beach ocean instruction, we will recommend pool programs and issue a full deposit refund.

"My son was terrified of waves at South Beach after seeing someone get pulled by a current last summer. Three sessions with The Shore Academy and he's now reading the water before he goes in. The instructors are incredible."
"As a Coconut Grove family we're at Crandon Park almost every weekend. The Shore Academy did a session there for our two daughters and the professional video they captured was stunning on top of an amazing lesson. Already booked again."
